Kumkum is a public health practitioner with extensive leadership experience in developing and implementing high-performance programs serving regulatory agencies, non-profits, hospitals, universities, and corporations. She is Technical Lead for NIH’s Substances of Concern Reduction Initiative and team recipient of the 2014 Presidential GreenGov Innovation Award. A chemical engineer from MIT with environmental health training at Harvard, she brings decades of process expertise for promoting healthier building environments through toxic chemical exposure reduction. She has developed tools to enhance materials selection processes for EPA, conduct facility hazard screening for FEMA, and improve building IAQ for DARPA.  


As Senior Director of the premier Green Guide for Health Care nonprofit, Kumkum successfully completed an Operations Pilot program with 70 hospitals. As Director of Safety at Emerson Hospital in Massachusetts, she launched their first Green Operations program. She led the Brigham and Women's Hospital design team to achieve the first LEED-Silver hospital in New England.  Her current focus in health care involves improving medical clinic operations through sustainability compliance, risk reduction, and technology implementation.


The founding principal of a growing consulting practice Integrative Sciences LLC, she managed an Energy and Environmental Sustainability project under subcontract supporting US Department of Health and Human Services from 2011-2014.  A building scientist, researcher, and educator, she presents regularly at regional seminars and international conferences.
